Wedding Gown SO nice, we bought it twice

Two versions of the poppy/laura wedding dress. The plus size bride in Ottawa is wearing the blush satin version with matching off the shoulder drapes and our other bride is wearing the poppy/laura in ivory with a narrow strap.

At first glance, we bet you wouldn’t guess that our gorgeous models Yasmeen and Sereyna are actually wearing the same wedding dress. That moment of surprise is exactly why we love telling this story. Because Bridal shopping has been framed for far too long as a one-lane road: one sample size, one vision, one “right” way a dress is supposed to look. At Always, we believe that’s outdated and honestly, a little boring.

Yasmeen and Sereyna are wearing the same base gown, Poppy Laura by Kathryn Bass, sampled two completely different ways. Same foundation. Different sizes. Different fabrics. Different styling. Entirely different vibes. And yet, both absolutely themselves.

The Dress, Explained

Sereyna is wearing the Poppy/Laura as it was originally designed to be. The classic a-line is featured in an ivory duchesse with narrow straps. The seamless bodice to skirt transitions keeps clean lines and provides immediate elegance.

Yasmeen is modelling our totally customized version of the gown, IN PINK! We sapped the narrow straps for off the shoulder and then added buttons all the way down the train and the Tessa bow, in the matching pink satin duchesse.

Same dress name. Same designer. Two completely different outcomes. And that’s the point.

This isn’t just about visuals, it’s about access.

For so many brides, the sample size conversation is quietly loaded with shame. You walk into a boutique, see one dress you love, and immediately start negotiating with yourself:
“It’ll look better in my size.”
“I’ll just imagine it.”
“This isn’t meant for my body.”

At Always, we don’t want you imagining, we want you seeing and experiencing.

Having the same dress available in multiple sizes allows brides to experience the gown as it’s meant to exist: on a real body, with real proportions, without the mental gymnastics. It takes the guesswork out and replaces it with confidence. Size is not a style limitation.

One of the biggest myths in Bridal? That certain styles “only work” on certain bodies. This moment proves the opposite.

This is one of the best parts about working with designers who truly love customization: the options are endless.

At Always, customization isn’t a buzzword or used as a marketing ploy, it’s built into how we work. Fabric swaps, sleeve additions, neckline adjustments, backs that feel more you, these aren’t “extras,” they’re part of the process.

Poppy/Laura is a perfect example of how a strong base design becomes a canvas. Satin or sparkle. Sleeves or strapless. Lace details or clean lines. The dress evolves with the bride, not the other way around.

Seeing Yourself Reflected (Literally)

There’s something powerful about watching two brides, in two different sizes, wearing the same dress and both looking unreal. It sends a message, quiet but undeniable:
You don’t need to change your body to "earn" a beautiful dress.

You deserve to see yourself represented in the space, in the mirrors, and in the options available to you.

For us, offering the same dress in multiple sizes isn’t a “special feature.” It’s the bare minimum.

It’s part of our larger commitment to inclusive sizing, ethical manufacturing and a shopping experience that feels supportive, not stressful.

Because when you can see a gown on different bodies, you start focusing on how it makes you feel, not whether you’re “right” for it.

One Dress, Infinite Outcomes

If you’ve ever wondered whether a dress could really work for you, let this be your sign: sometimes the magic isn’t in finding a different dress, it’s in seeing the same one, done your way.
